Avre Friday briefing #1

Avre Friday briefing #1

Well what a start to the year it’s been! We’ve been working hard on sizing, marketing, packaging and planning for production. We’ve locked down patterns, trims, fabrics and have begun production of the first 50 pieces from Batch #1.

Jackets #001 and #002

We’ve also started delivering some of the first 10 jackets off the production line. In the last update, we told you how we’d delivered jacket #001 to chef, author and all round great guy, Jamie Oliver.

Since then, we’ve also been lucky enough to deliver jacket #002 to footballing royalty, Gary Lineker. Gary was so welcoming and genuinely thrilled to receive a hand delivered jacket from James. He wore it out to dinner that night!

Welcome Al Murray

You might have also noticed that we’ve recently welcomed comedian, author, broadcaster and top bloke, Al Murray onto the Avre team. Al is a history graduate and WWII specialist and along with our other co-founder James Holland hosts the awesome podcast We Have Ways of Making You Talk and the YouTube series Walking The Ground. Well worth checking out if you haven’t already.

If you'd like to win a signed copy of Al's recent book, Arnhem Black Tuesday, check out our Instagram post below - just like, comment and follow us and you'll be in the draw.

10% to Charity

One of the very early and easiest decisions we made as a company was to give back 10% of our profits to veterans charities. Our brand doesn’t exist without the bravery and courage shown by our armed forces so we wanted to make sure showed our appreciation.

We’re proud to say that our chosen charity for Batch #1 is SSAFA who, since 1885 have offered support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need.

Last year, James was part of a team that raised £15k for SSAFA by paddling 61 nautical miles in a folbot (kayak). This was a recreation of a Second World War training route used by the SBS and Commandos and took them from Ardrossan to Oban in Western Scotland.

The Lyon Air Museum

And for a bit of fun, Jim and Pete popped in to the brilliant Lyon air museum in Santa Ana, California. They have some amazingly well restored military planes and vehicles, and the veterans that patrol the museum are really happy to chat - and get in front of the camera!

What’s next?

We have a new product shoot scheduled for the end of February, so keep an eye on the website for new imagery coming soon. We’ve also lined up a fascinating interview with another brand that is rooted in history.

That’s it for now, as ever, thanks so much for your support.

I am presuming that I am on your mailing list since I received this email. I am interested in buying a jacket and am wondering what the timeline is to place orders. Thanks,

Thomas Mullen
