AVRE Friday Briefing #34

Friday’s here again — and the hum of excitement at HQ is unmistakable. The workshop smells faintly of fresh denim samples and strong coffee, and there’s a quiet sense that something special is taking shape.

On This Day in 1941

October 10, 1941 - The Battle of Moscow intensified as German forces met unexpectedly strong resistance along the Mozhaisk line. Further south, the RAF bombed Piraeus in an effort to disrupt German armored movements, while in London, a heavy Luftwaffe raid damaged St. Paul’s Cathedral.

It was a moment that summed up 1941 — defiance on all fronts. The world was burning, yet people held their ground.

From the Frontline

James and Al are back with a brand-new episode on WW2HQ, tackling the Battle of Britain with the blend of knowledge, wit, and detail only they can deliver. It’s history told properly — pints, passion, and all.  If you haven't started yet you are in for a treat.

Part 7 out now

And watch it this weekend, Part 8 out Sunday.

Workshop Notes

Back at HQ, preparations for Batch 2 are in full swing. We don’t start cutting or sewing until after the drop — every jacket is made to order, the way it should be — but the groundwork is already taking shape.

The original Yorkshire mill is spinning and dyeing the denim to our exact 1941 spec, while our artisan button maker in the Cotswolds is moulding the buttons by hand using the same heritage process that gave Batch #1 its character. Each piece of the puzzle is being crafted with care long before a single smock is stitched.

It’s slow, deliberate work — but that’s the point. Nothing wasted, nothing rushed, and nothing done halfway.

Until Next Time

We’re inching closer to the next chapter — Batch #2, the pub, and another chance to toast the spirit that inspired AVRE from day one.

Here’s to craftsmanship, community, and a shared love of the stories our clothes carry.
Have a cracking weekend — we’ll see some of you, pint in hand, very soon.
