Battle of Britain: Walking the Ground

The first three episodes of James and Al's new series are now live on the WW2Headquarters YouTube. Join the boys as they explore the Luftwaffe’s assault and ask whether the RAF’s “Few” were really fighting against the odds.

This week in 1940 — RAF focus

  • 26 Sept 1940 Factory hit: The Supermarine Spitfire factory at Woolston, Southampton was attacked and severely damaged in a daylight raid — a direct attempt to cripple Fighter Command at the source.

  • 27 Sept 1940 — Graveney Marsh: A Ju 88 brought down in Kent led to the skirmish known as the Battle of Graveney Marsh — often cited as the last ground engagement with an enemy force on mainland Britain.

  • Context: This fell in the early weeks of the Blitz (which began 7 Sept), when London endured near-nightly bombing while daylight attacks eased after mid-September.

Batch #2 x Reorg

A reminder that Batch #2 is supporting the work of the charity ReOrg. Founded by former Royal Marine Sam Sheriff MBE, ReOrg uses Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and functional fitness to help veterans and serving military personnel rebuild both body and mind. What started as a single gym has grown into a network of training spaces across the UK, creating communities where service personnel can find purpose and camaraderie again. Find out more here.

And Finally...

We're excited to announce that we'll be releasing a blended malt whisky in time for Christmas! A blended malt is a whisky that contains a blend of single malts from different distilleries.

As with our jackets, this will be a limited edition release and we'll be telling the unique story of Roger “Jumbo” Courtney, founder of the Special Boat Section (forerunner of today’s SBS). More details soon.
