This Day in 1944 — Polish II Corps on the Adriatic

22 August 1944: After taking Ancona in July and pushing past Senigallia in early August, the Polish II Corps had crossed the Metauro River and was poised on the edge of the Gothic Line. Three days later, the Allies would open Operation Olive, the major assault on that line. Eighty-one years on, the craft and grit behind our smock story still inspire what we make.
