Avre Friday Briefing #20
Week 9 Studio Update - Batch #1 Progress
We were in the studio this week to check in on Batch #1 progress.
All sizes are now off the cutter's table and are either with or waiting for the machinists. We currently have sizes 4 - 7 "on machine" - meaning they're actively being sewn. There were four machinists working on them when we visited: two focused on the outer and two on the linings.
There's a lot of precision that goes into each step of a hand made garment. Here, one of our machinists, Ina is working on pocket construction, carefully positioning and stitching each one.
Each machinist works on multiple tasks in a day. Below, Nura is seaming the lining to the hem facing, then pressing the seam allowance flat with an iron. It's one of those steps where precision really shows in the final product - getting that seam perfectly flat ensures the hem sits exactly right when the jacket is finished.
And here Inara is working on the tabs for the cuffs and epaulettes, using a stick to press the seam allowances flat before pulling the fabric through to make the finished piece. It's a simple technique, but it ensures sharp, crisp points, even on the smallest details. These are the kinds of methods that separate hand-finished work from mass production.
The buttonholes and finishing touches will come later - we'll do all of those together to ensure consistency across the entire run.
You'll be glad to know, everything's still tracking well for early August shipping.
Batch #2
The Batch #2 samples are now back in the studio which means we can get on and finalise the "tech-pack". This is the complete blueprint for manufacturing - every measurement, construction detail, material specification, and process instruction that the team needs to produce the jacket exactly as we've specified it.
It's detailed work, but getting the tech-pack right is crucial. This is where all our sampling, fitting, and refinements get translated into precise instructions that ensure every jacket in the batch meets our standards.
Batch #3
Batch #3 is now official - we started the toiling process this week. Launching late 2025. Stay tuned for updates.
And Finally...
Happy Friday.
ps - can't believe we've been writing these blog posts for 20 straight weeks. Thanks for reading (if indeed you still are)!
